Prêmio Machado de Assis

The Prêmio Machado de Assis is the most important Brazilian literary prize that the Academia Brasileira de Letras , Rio de Janeiro , has given annually to Brazilian writers for their life's work since 1941 .

In addition to the prize money of currently R $ 100,000 and a certificate, the honorees will also receive a bust created by the sculptor Mário Agostinelli since 1998 showing Machado de Assis , Brazil's most important writer.

The Fundação Biblioteca Nacional ( Brazilian National Library ) awards a prize of the same name.
