Nicola Cosentino

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicola Cosentino (born January 2, 1959 in Casal di Principe ) is an Italian politician of the Popolo della Libertà party . He was Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and resigned on July 14, 2010 on suspicion of belonging to the P3 secret lodge .

Life

Cosentino was born in Casal di Principe near Naples ; he is the nephew of Giuseppe Russo, head of the Casalesi family. As a member of the Partito Socialista Democratico Italiano from 1978 to 1980, he was a councilor for a municipality, then from 1980 to 1995 legal advisor to the provincial administration. In 1995 he was elected to the Italian Parliament for Forza Italia . In 2005 he ran for the presidency of the province of Caserta , but was defeated by Sandro De Franciscis , the candidate of the center-left alliance. In April 2008 he was re-elected to the Italian parliament for Berlusconi's alliance Popolo della Libertà .

After the confession of the Camorra godfather Gaetano Vassallo, he allowed the illegal treatment of toxic waste in September 2008 for a monthly donation of 50,000 euros. In 2009, the anti-mafia commission of the city administration of Naples applied to the Italian parliament to arrest Cosentino, which was rejected by the responsible parliamentary committee.

In 2010 Cosentino was involved in a wind turbine scandal in Sardinia , during which an organization called nuova P2 , or P3 by another name , was uncovered. This name came about because of an activity comparable to that of the Propaganda Due secret lodge in the 1970s and 1980s, to which Silvio Berlusconi was also assigned at the time. Several violations of the law were tried before the Roman court:

  • Influence the constitutional court to declare the Lodo Alfano constitutional. The law known as Lodo Alfano was designed to protect Berlusconi from being charged in multiple court cases and was ultimately declared unconstitutional and thus invalid.
  • Support for the readmission of the regional party "Per la Lombardia" to the regional elections in Lombardy . The party was not allowed to vote because of forged signatures.
  • Favoring the appointment of Alfonso Marra to the Court of Appeal in Milan
  • Support for Cosentino's candidacy for President in Campania through a smear campaign against other Popolo della Libertà candidates .

He resigned from his position as Secretary of State for Economic Affairs on July 14, 2010, but remains his party's regional coordinator in the Campania region .

On January 12, 2012, the House of Representatives rejected the withdrawal of Cosentino's immunity by 309 to 298 votes.

In the spring of 2013, Cosentino was arrested but released. On April 3, 2014, it became known that Cosentino had been arrested for extortion and distortion of competition with mafia intentions. The close connection to the Casalesi clan also affects his brothers, who were also arrested and charged.
