Life

Little is known of the Smith's life; so there are also no unequivocally comprehensible life data. After a career as a college football player at Springfield College in Springfield , Massachusetts in 1911 and 1912, he coached this team in 1913. A year later or, according to other sources, in 1913, he joined Germantown as a football coach Friends School , a K-12 school, in Germantown , a borough of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA . In this position he was active until the 1950s and at the same time he was also the director of physical education. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Coaches Association and in later years (from 1948 to 1952) editor of the National Collegiate Soccer Guide , which is also known under the name NCAA Soccer Guide . In 1925 a new gymnasium was built for Germantown Friends School , which was named Smith Gymnasium in honor of long-time sports director and coach Alfred A. Smith and which still exists today (as of 2016). In 1951 he was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the "Builder" category .
