Alfred Abbot

Alfred Abt (born May 25, 1855 in Braunschweig , † April 29, 1880 in Geneva ) was a German conductor and composer. He was a theater conductor. His stations included Kiel and Rostock.

Life

Alfred Abt's parents were the composer and Braunschweiger Hofkapellmeister Franz Abt and his wife Rosalie. Alfred Abt studied at the University of Leipzig philosophy . From 1874 to 1878 he studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Leipzig . From the winter season of 1878 he was engaged as Kapellmeister at the Rostock City Theater. At the gala concert of the singer festival in Quedlinburg, which took place on July 19 and 20, 1879, he conducted the hymn he composed for male choir and orchestra, Herr du bist groß . He had to give up his position at the Rostock City Theater in January 1880 for health reasons. Together with his mother he went on a trip to Italy. On the return journey from Pegli he died on April 29, 1880 in Geneva.
