Alfred Belpaire

Alfred Jules Belpaire (born September 25, 1820 in Ostend ; † January 26, 1893 ) was a Belgian railway engineer. In addition to numerous locomotives and steam buses , he also designed the Belpaire standing boiler .

From 1837 to 1840 he attended the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris , where he graduated as a mechanical engineer. Belpaire then worked for the Belgian State Railways , where he was employed as a mechanical engineer for more than 50 years.

Alfred Belpaire was one of the founders of the Congrès International des Chemins de Fer in 1884 , of which he became president in 1891.
