Alfred Bloomingdale
Alfred Schiffer Bloomingdale (born April 15, 1916 in New York City , † August 22, 1982 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American entrepreneur .
Life
His father was the Jewish entrepreneur Hiram Bloomingdale and his mother Rosalind Bloomingdale. Alfred Bloomingdale grew up in New York City. He graduated from Brown University in Providence . He was briefly married to Barbara Brewster in the 1940s. He took over the Bloomingdale’s trading company from his father . In the 1950s he financed the credit card company Diners Club founded by Frank McNamara , which he acquired in 1952 and sold again in 1969.
In 1981 Bloomingdale became a member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board of Ronald Reagan , with whom he and his wife were personal friends.
Bloomingdale was married to Betsy Bloomingdale, with whom he had three children. During the late years of their marriage, he had a relationship with model Vicki Morgan , who was murdered in California in 1983. After Bloomingdale died of cancer in 1982, the then 30-year-old Morgan unsuccessfully sued Bloomingdale's heirs because his wife had stopped all payments to Morgan after his death. It was about $ 5 million.
