Alfred Desenclos

Alfred Desenclos (born February 7, 1912 in Le Portel , † March 31, 1971 in Paris ) was a French composer.

Life

Desenclos first worked as an industrial designer to support his family as the seventh of ten children. From 1929 he perfected his pianistic skills at the Conservatory of Roubaix before studying at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1932 . Here he won the First Premier Grand Prix in the competition for the Prix ​​de Rome , which was held again for the first time in 1942 after a two-year break .

During his studies Desenclos worked as a choirmaster at the parish church of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Paris. From 1943 to 1950 he was director of the Conservatoire in Roubaix, then until his death professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 1950 he was awarded the honorary title of Artiste Français .

His most important work was the symphony composed in 1956, for which he was awarded the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris . His saxophone quartet, which he composed at the suggestion of the Marcel Mule Quartet in the mid-1960s, also had great success . Also among his main works is the Mass de Requiem , created in 1963counted for soloists, choir and orchestra. It was published under his name by the composer Tristan Foison (* 1961) in 1999 - the plagiarism was only noticed after the premiere.

A collection of his sacred compositions was published on the Hortus label with the organist Frédéric Desenclos , his son, under the direction of Joël Suhubiette . Besides the Requiem u. a. a Salve Regina and a Nos autem from 1958.
