Sir Alfred East (born December 15, 1849 in Kettering , Northamptonshire , † September 28, 1913 in London ) was a British painter .
Life
Alfred East studied at the Glasgow School of Art and then went to France to study with Tony Robert-Fleury and William Adolphe Bouguereau at the renowned École des Beaux-Arts . His romantic landscapes show an influence of the Barbizon school .
In 1906, Alfred East was elected President of the Royal Academy of Arts . Four years later, on July 7, 1910, King Edward VII made him a Knight Bachelor .
