Alfred Herbert Fritz (born March 28, 1937 in Strasburg , West Prussia ) is a German production engineer and retired professor at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

Life and education

Herbert Fritz, the son of a Protestant pastor, was not admitted to study in the GDR and therefore moved to West Berlin in 1955 . After passing the supplementary examination for high school graduates, he began studying materials science at the Technical University of Berlin in the winter semester of 1956 . In August 1963 he was hired by Walter Panknin as a research assistant at the Institute for Deformation Science and in February 1966 he was appointed scientific assistant at the TU. He did his doctorate there on a topic of metal physics.

Fritz began his industrial activity in 1970 as head of the measuring department in the central development department of Schloemann AG in Düsseldorf . In 1974 he set up the ergonomics and environmental protection department in the business research institute of the Association of German Ironworkers (VDEh). Numerous BMFT and EC projects in the “Humanization of Working Life” program were carried out under his leadership .

  • AH Fritz: Influencing variables on noise emissions from hot and cold saws and measures to reduce noise. (BMFT HA 79-19)
  • H. Fritz, H. Kremer, D. Otto and A. Schmitz: Causes of the generation of noise and pulsations on gas burners for industrial furnaces. (BMFT HA 79-15)
  • AH Fritz, Th. Lehmkühler, L. van Heyden and F. Vissel: Total nitrogen oxide emissions from technical gas firing systems. ( ECSC 6254-00-1-226)
  • H. Brand, AH Fritz and H. Schnauber: Metrological investigation of mechanical vibration sources at workplaces in the iron and steel industry. (EGKS 6254-34-1-029)
  • O. Bschorr, H. Fritz, H. Kettner and G. Neugebauer: Noise distribution in factory halls - calculation and planning -. In the BMFT series Humanisation of Working Life Volume 10 (Campus-Verlag 1981)

On October 1, 1977 Fritz was appointed to the C3 professorship for production technology and materials testing in the mechanical engineering department at the TFH Berlin, today the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin . At the same time, on his initiative, the non-profit Society for Manufacturing Technology eV was founded as a sponsor for the Institute for Noise Reduction in Manufacturing Plants (ILFA). As a result, problems from medium-sized businesses in Berlin could be taken up directly and submitted to the Technology Mediation Agency (TVA) as applications for small-scale funding.

In 1983, the EC Commission in Brussels granted the ILFA Institute a research grant of 480,000 DM for “noise reduction in welding and flame cutting in the steel industry”, which ran from 1984 to 1987. EGKS 7257-78 / 356/01. A. H. Fritz, J. Sternberg and W. Kühnlein: Final report.

Another major EC project, which ran from 1988 to 1991, was carried out in cooperation with Boschgotthardtshütte (Siegen). A. H. Fritz, J. Sternberg and C. Wagner: Reduction of the risk of biomechanical damage in grinders of ingot and continuous cast molds. (EGKS 7249/13/056)

In addition to these research activities, Fritz was also head of the TFH production laboratory from 1980 until his retirement in 2002, where the practical training of prospective mechanical engineers took place with five technical employees. Here he supervised over 100 theses. In addition, the VDI conference on noise reduction on manufacturing machines was held every six months , and from 1990 to 1994 training events for East Berlin manufacturing companies were also held.

As an author and editor, Alfred Herbert Fritz has published several specialist books and over 100 articles and manual entries. His most important work is the Springer textbook production technology, which refers to podcasts on individual processes that can be downloaded free of charge. Public lectures took A. H. Fritz to many university towns, including a. Amsterdam, Beijing, Istanbul, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Sydney, Warsaw, Vienna.
