Alfred Horn (politician)

Alfred Horn (born August 4, 1898 in Vienna ; † March 10, 1959 in Hallein ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), mayor of the Lower Austrian municipality of Schwechat and a member of the National Council .

Life

Alfred Horn was born on August 4, 1898 in Vienna, attended elementary school, then the community school and learned the trade of blacksmith and cart smith. As an apprentice, he joined the Association of Young Workers , and from 1918 to 1934 Horn was also a functionary of the free trade unions . After the First World War he entered the service of the Federal Gendarmerie.

During the Second World War , he was sent to the Kaprun labor camp from October 6 to December 14, 1939, and to the Präbichl labor camp from April 25, 1940 to September 8, 1941 to serve political prison sentences. In the first National Council election in Austria in 1945 , Horn was elected to the National Council from constituency 9 ( district under the Vienna Woods ). On July 26, 1945, he became district head of the 23rd district (then Schwechat) of Greater Vienna . After Schwechat was reintegrated into Lower Austria, he became mayor of the city in 1946. In May 1947 he resigned as mayor and was district chairman until 1954.

Alfred Horn died of a long-known heart condition during a spa stay in Dürrnberg near Hallein in the state of Salzburg , he was buried at the Schwechat parish cemetery.
