Alfred Kornberger (born July 3, 1933 in Vienna ; † March 31, 2002 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Alfred Kornberger was born in Vienna in 1933. He studied painting with Professor Robin Christian Andersen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna . In 1956 he completed his studies with a diploma and received the Golden Füger Medal.

Stylistically, he dealt with the different facets of classical modernism and was just as inspired by Pablo Picasso's late work as by the depictions of surrealist artists. In his early years he devoted himself to various topics from the world of industry and topographical representations. Later he turned almost exclusively to the representation of the female nude.

In the book Alfred Kornberger - The Nude as Innovation by Franz Smola, Kornberger's extensive painterly oeuvre is analyzed on the basis of over a hundred individual texts and the most important paintings by the artist from all periods are presented. Connections to contemporaries of the artist are illuminated as well as the artistic representations that are unique to Kornberger.

Alfred Kornberger's work is part of the great Austrian tradition of body-hugging art, which ranges from Egon Schiele to Alfred Hrdlicka . His central theme, the female nude, is not only a projection of sensual desire, but also an expression of psychological sensitivities.

Alfred Kornberger Foundation

The Alfred Kornberger Foundation was founded in order to establish the artistic work nationally and internationally and in addition to the processing of the painting work that has already taken place, also to process the graphic work.

The estate regulates in particular the scientific processing of the graphic work with a volume of around 2,500 paper works, the activities of the Foundation and its website as well as national and international exhibitions. The basis for all these activities was a separate estate auction with around 100 selected paintings and graphic works by the artist at the Vienna auction house Kinsky 2017.

Together with Alfred and Nena Kornberger's son Christian Kornberger and nephew Hubert Kornberger, Christian Czaak took over the management of the foundation. Franz Smola could be won for the scientific support. An important part of the activities is the establishment and announcement of a new artistic competition. In the spirit of Alfred Kornberger, the focus is on the graphic and drawing element and thus also the revival of the human being as an artistic motif - as a continuation of the Austrian tradition of figurative, body-hugging graphics and painting.

reception

"Alfred Kornberger has mastered the art of nude drawing to a very special degree, both in terms of graphics, lines, and form, as well as the physical, anatomical". "
