Alfred HE Popp , QC (* 20th century ) is a Canadian lawyer and has been chairman of the Canadian government's Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund since 2006 .

Education and professional career

Popp graduated in law at Rhodes University in Grahamstown , South Africa , where he the degree of Bachelor of Laws was awarded. This was followed by a master's degree at the University of Ottawa . In 1970 he entered the public service in his home country and worked as a legal advisor in the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Transport. From 1975 he was a member of the Canadian delegation on the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization . In addition, he chaired numerous international conferences and was instrumental in drafting important international treaties in the field of international law , such as the HNS Convention . He also campaigned for the establishment of the International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage in 1992 . At the national level, Popp was involved in the further development of Canadian transport law and monitored the implementation of international agreements in domestic law. For example, he advised the Canadian Coast Guard on the implementation of the SOLAS and MARPOL conventions . In 1993 Popp took over the chairmanship of the legal committee at the International Maritime Organization. He held this position until his retirement in 2005. In 2007, the Canadian Minister of Transport, Lawrence Cannon, appointed him chairman of the Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund. He was confirmed in this position in 2011.

1986 appointed Elisabeth II. Popp as Crown Attorney . He was also admitted to the bar in British Columbia in 1968 .
