Alfred Schöpf

Alfred Schöpf (born April 10, 1938 in Munich ; † October 6, 2018 ) was a German philosopher .

Life

Schöpf studied philosophy, education, Latin philology and Catholic theology at the University of Munich . In 1965 he did his doctorate with Helmut Kuhn on The Justification of Knowledge with Augustin as Dr. phil. The Aachen philosopher Helmut Achilles praised "the clarity and conciseness of the work, with which it stands out from the wealth of Augustine literature."

Since 1977 he has been a full professor of philosophy at the University of Würzburg . Augustine and Sigmund Freud were among his main research interests . From 1986 he was also a psychoanalyst. He was one of the four authors of the Lexicon of Ethics published by Otfried Höffe . In 2004 he retired .

Schöpf's students include the Catholic moral theologian Peter Fonk , Peter Prechtl (1948–2007), editor of the Metzler Lexicon Philosophy , and Petra Herkert, Professor of Psychology and Management at Furtwangen University.
