Alfred Starosson

Alfred Starosson (born November 26, 1898 in Rostock ; † August 7, 1957 there ) was a German politician and economic functionary ( SED ). From 1946 to 1950 he was Minister for Trade and Supply in the State of Mecklenburg .

Life

Starosson's father was Franz Starosson , 1918/19 SPD Minister of State for Transport under Prime Minister Hugo Wendorff in Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

After high school, Starosson trained as a typesetter . From 1913 a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in Rostock, he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1916 . After serving in the First World War , he was a member of the board of the SPD and city councilor from 1924 to 1933, and for four years he was secretary of the Rostock Reichsbanner. Under the Nazi regime, Starosson was under police supervision from 1933 to 1945 and was arrested twice. From 1934 to 1945 he ran a tobacco shop. During the Second World War he did military service again during the French campaign and after his dismissal he was drafted into the Meinke engineering works.

From 1945 he became a shop steward at the Meinke machine factory and the first local SPD chairman in Rostock. After the founding of the SED, he acted as its district chairman and was a member of the SED state executive committee and the state parliament. From December 9, 1946 to November 18, 1950 he was Minister for Trade and Supply of the State of Mecklenburg in the Höcker I cabinet . His successor in November 1950 was Günther Ludwig . From 1950 to 1952 Starosson was President and from 1952 to 1956 District Director of the IHK Schwerin.

According to Albert Schulz , Starosson was an opponent of the forced unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED .
