Richard Herbertz

Richard Herbertz (born August 15, 1878 in Cologne , † October 7, 1959 in Thun ) was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bern .

life and work

The son of an industrialist studied chemistry, philosophy and physics in Bonn and Strasbourg . He was a member of the Corps Hansea Bonn (1897) and Rhenania Strasbourg (1898). He received his doctorate in 1905 and completed his habilitation in Bonn in 1907.

From 1910 to 1948 he was a full professor of general philosophy in Bern. Herbertz stood in the tradition of Fichte and Hegel and their thinking, which was committed to the individual. In 1919 Walter Benjamin received his doctorate with the dissertation The Concept of Art Criticism in German Romanticism . From the 1920s onwards, Herbertz, who also held a chair in psychology, increasingly devoted himself to questions of criminal psychology . In 1939 he received Swiss citizenship .

Friedrich Dürrenmatt , who studied philosophy in Bern from 1943 to 1946, described the unconventional professor in the second part of his material .
