Alfred Dunlop
Alfred Wallace "Alf" Dunlop (born January 12, 1875 in Christchurch , New Zealand , † April 7, 1933 in Melbourne ) was an Australian tennis player.
Life
Dunlop took part in tennis tournaments in Australia from 1897. In 1905 he entered the Wimbledon Championships for the first time , but already lost his opening match against Anthony Wilding . In the same year he won the Northumberland Championships . At the first edition of the Australian Championships in November 1905, he reached the semi-finals. Three years later he was defeated in the final of the Australian Championships Fred Alexander in five sets. In doubles he won the title at the side of Alexander this year and thus the greatest success of his career. In 1905 and 1912 he was used in the Davis Cup against Great Britain and the USA . Until 1914 he played regularly at tournaments in Australia and Europe. He last appeared in doubles at the Australian Championships in 1919, but was eliminated in the first round.
He died in Kew , Melbourne in 1933 at the age of 58 .
