Grand Slams 1905

The 29th edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1905 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road.

From this year on, the field of players in the tournament became much more international. Of a total of 71 players in the men's All-Comers competition, 16 were not from Great Britain, including Ferdinand Uhl, the first participant from Germany. In the women's tournament, May Sutton was the first non-British woman to win the tournament.

Men's singles

Laurence Doherty defeated Australian Norman Brookes in three sets in the Challenge Round , securing his fourth title in a row.

Ladies singles

The US-American May Sutton prevailed in the Challenge Round against the defending champion Dorothea Douglass in two sets.

Men's doubles

As in the previous year, Laurence and Reginald Doherty defeated Sydney Smith and Frank Riseley 6: 2, 6: 4, 6: 8 and 6: 3 in the Challenge Round .
