Grand Slams 1893

The 17th edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1893 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road. For the men, 29 participants competed in the All-Comers competition, and for the women, seven.

It was the last year the Renshaw brothers signed up for the tournament. However, William Renshaw did not even start his first round game, his twin brother Ernest was eliminated in the second round. With the withdrawal of the popular brothers from Wimbledon, public interest in the tournament subsequently waned.

Men's singles

Joshua Pim beat defending champion Wilfred Baddeley in the Challenge Round and won his first individual title.

Ladies singles

Charlotte Dod was able to win her fifth and final title. In the Challenge Round she prevailed against her rival Blanche Bingley-Hillyard in three sets.

Charlotte Cooper , who should win the tournament five times from 1895, took part for the first time. However, she was eliminated in the first round against Henrietta Horncastle .

Men's doubles

Joshua Pim and Frank Stoker beat last year's winners Ernest Lewis and Harry Barlow in the Challenge Round with 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 1, 2: 6 and 6: 0.
