Grand Slams 1955

The 69th edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1955 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Church Road.

Before the tournament bigger renovation and reconstruction work was completed on the site, which is about 100,000 pounds cost. Court No. 1 was expanded by 900 seats, and a balcony was added at the southern end of the Center Court. This year the regulation, which is still valid today, was introduced that the balls are exchanged after the first seven games and then after every nine games of a match. Until then, the balls were changed after each set.

Men's singles

Tony Trabert defeated Kurt Nielsen in three sets in the final .

Ladies singles

In the women's category, Louise Brough won her fourth individual title at Wimbledon, after having been successful in 1948-1950.

Ladies doubles

In the women's doubles, the British Angela Buxton and Anne Shilcock were able to briefly interrupt the dominance of the US players. They defeated Shirley Bloomer and Patricia Ward in straight sets in the final .

Mixed

In the mixed, Doris Hart and Vic Seixas won for the third time in a row.
