Grand Slams 1911

The 35th edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1911 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road.

The number of participants in the men's singles reached a new record with over 100 players. The British Harold Bache was the first player to use the two-handed backhand.

Men's singles

Anthony Wilding defended his Challenge Round title against Herbert Roper Barrett after he had to retire in the fifth set. The final day was exceptionally hot with 31 degrees Celsius in the shade.

Ladies singles

In a new edition of last year's final, Dorothea Douglass-Chambers defeated her challenger Dora Boothby 6-0 and 6-0. It was Douglass-Chambers' fifth Wimbledon title.

Men's doubles

In doubles, André Gobert and Max Décugis were two French successful for the first time.
