The 61st edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1947 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Church Road.

On the opening day, a new record was set with around 20,000 spectators; on the first Saturday even 30,000 spectators appeared. On Friday of the second week, King George VI also visited and Queen Elizabeth the tournament. Jack Kramer was the first men's winner to wear shorts.

Jack Kramer won his only single title at Wimbledon.

Ladies singles

Margaret Osborne duPont won the women’s race . In the final, she defeated Doris Hart in straight sets.

Men's doubles

Bob Falkenburg and Jack Kramer won the men's doubles .

Ladies doubles

Doris Hart and Patricia Todd won the title in women's doubles .

Mixed

In mixed, Louise Brough and John Bromwich won .
