The 41st edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place for the last time in 1921 on the old grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road.
It was also the last time the Challenge Round tournament system was used. From the following year, the defending champion, like any other player, had to fight through the entire field of participants. As early as 1912, the multiple Wimbledon winner Anthony Wilding had spoken out in favor of abolishing the Challenge Round.
Men's singles
In the last Challenge Round at Wimbledon, Bill Tilden and his challenger, the South African Brian Norton , met. Norton had previously defeated the Spaniard Manuel Alonso in the All-Comers final. Tilden lost the first two sets and started the third with a series of stop balls , whereupon the audience booed him. Norton went completely out of the concept and gave the following two sentences with 1: 6 and 0: 6, although the audience was on his side. In the decisive fifth set Norton had two match points with a score of 5: 4 and 40:15. At the first match point, after a supposedly too long stroke, Tilden was already on the way to the net for the handshake when the ball fell on the line and Norton then failed with a pass. Tilden fended off the second match point with an ace. Tilden won the set 7: 5, both match and tournament.
Ladies singles
In the women's category, Suzanne Lenglen won her third title in a row. She clearly beat Elizabeth Ryan 6-2 and 6-0 in the Challenge Round .
Men's doubles
The British Randolph Lycett and Max Woosnam were successful in the men's doubles .
Ladies doubles

Mixed
