Grand Slams 1887

The eleventh Wimbledon Championships took place in 1886 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road. With only 16 players in the men and five in the women in the All-Comers competition, a negative record had to be set. William Renshaw did not appear to defend his title due to a tennis elbow .

Charlotte Dod , who prevailed among the women, was the youngest ever Wimbledon winner at 15 years and 285 days.

Men's singles

The already 36-year-old Herbert Lawford was able to win his only Wimbledon title in the absence of his rival William Renshaw. In the final he was already back with 1: 2 sets against Ernest Renshaw , but then won the fourth and fifth sets.

Ladies singles

In the All-Comers contest only five players competed. In the Challenge Round , Charlotte "Lottie" Dod was able to prevail against last year's winner Blanche Bingley at her first appearance at Wimbledon . Dod won the first of five titles by 1893.

Men's doubles

Since the Renshaw brothers did not play doubles, Herbert Wilberforce and Patrick Bowes-Lyon as well as James Herbert Crispe and E. Barratt-Smith met in the final . Wilberforce and Bowes-Lyon won in three sets 7: 5, 6: 3 and 6: 2.
