The 43rd edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1923 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Church Road.
This year the second largest square ( Court No. 2 ) with 1,900 seats was inaugurated. Since the men's singles achieved a record registration of 133 players, a preliminary round had to be played. In the following years the field of participants was limited to 128 places. The old site on Worple Road was sold to a girls' school ( Wimbledon High School for Girls ).
For the last time since 1913, the tournament was officially named World Championships on Grass Courts that year . When the USA joined the International Tennis Federation , the tournament system was revised. The world championship claim of the Wimbledon Championships was dropped and instead the championships of the USA, England, France and Australia were raised to the rank of the most important international tennis tournaments. The hard court world championships in Paris were discontinued because the French championships opened up to an international field of participants from 1925. The indoor world championships , also launched in 1913 , were abolished.
Men's singles
The American Bill Johnston won his only victory at the Wimbledon tournament. He only had to make one set during the entire tournament.

In the women's category, Suzanne Lenglen won her fifth title in a row.
Men's doubles
Leslie Godfree and Randolph Lycett won the men's doubles .
Ladies doubles
Suzanne Lenglen and Elizabeth Ryan won their fifth Wimbledon double title in a row.
Mixed
In mixed, Elizabeth Ryan and Randolph Lycett were successful.
