The sixth edition of the Wimbledon Championships was held in 1882 on what was then the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road. Last year's winner William Renshaw won his second title. There were only 28 participants in addition to the defending champion.
Before the tournament, another rule change was announced in May 1882 by representatives of the All England Club and the Marlyebone Cricket Club . The height of the netting at the posts was then reduced to 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 m), bringing it to its current height. A serve could thereby be played back much more easily longline , which was hoped to reduce the advantage of the server.
Men's singles
Ernest Renshaw won the All-Comers Final against Richard Taswell Richardson . In the Challenge Round , his brother William Renshaw prevailed and defended his title.
