Patricia "Pat" Canning Todd (born July 22, 1922 in San Francisco , † September 5, 2015 in Encinitas , California ) was an American tennis player .

Career

She was one of the best players of the post-war period and won a total of four Grand Slam titles in 1947 and 1948 , one in singles, two in doubles and one in mixed.

In 1947 she won the women's singles at the French championships when she defeated Doris Hart 6: 3, 3: 6 and 6: 4 in the final. In doubles, with her final opponent Hart as a partner, she lost to doubles Louise Brough Clapp and Margaret Osborne duPont 5: 7, 2: 6.

In 1948 she won the French Open with her permanent doubles partner Hart in the double final against Shirley Fry Irvin and Mary Arnold Prentiss 6: 4, 6: 2 and was also able to win the mixed title 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 3 the side of her Czech mixed partner Jaroslav Drobný against her doubles partner Hart, who played with Frank Sedgman .

Todd stood between 1942 and 1951 a further 12 times in a Grand Slam final, including once in singles ( French Open 1950 ), eight times in doubles (1943-1951, including four times on the side of Doris Hart), and three times in mixed (1942, 2 × 1950). What is remarkable here is the fact that Todd lost seven times in doubles with her partners from the eight lost Grand Slam finals against the women's doubles Brought Clapp and Osborne duPont.
