Joshua Pim
Joshua Pim (born May 20, 1869 in Bray , † April 15, 1942 in Killiney , Dublin ) was an Irish tennis player . He won the singles of the Wimbledon Championships in 1893 and 1894 .
Life
Pim was born in 1869 in the seaside resort of Bray near Dublin . From 1887 he took part in tennis tournaments. After he lost in the final of Wimbledon Wilfred Baddeley in 1892 , he won there in 1893 and 1894 the final against Baddeley. In 1893 he also won the Queen's Club Championships . In 1898 he was in the final of the international German championships , but lost to Harold Mahony .
Pim was also successful as a doubles player. Together with Frank Stoker he won the double title at Wimbledon in 1890 and 1893, as well as five Irish championships.
In 1902 he played for the British team in the Davis Cup , but lost both games against the USA . Since the Davis Cup, at that time only a country competition between Great Britain and the USA, was held in New York , he took the opportunity and took part in the US championships in the same year . There he was defeated by the US American Leonard Ward in three sets in the round of 16 . Then he ended his tennis career.
Then Pim practiced as a doctor in Dublin . He died there in 1942 at the age of 72.
