Gustav Wilhelm Teschner

Gustav Wilhelm Teschner (born December 26, 1800 in Magdeburg , † May 7, 1883 in Dresden ) was a German composer and music teacher .

Life

Teschner was a student of Johann Andreas Seebach (1777-1823) and Johann Joachim Wachsmann , from 1824 by Carl Friedrich Zelter at the Royal Institute for Church Music in Berlin. In 1829 he continued his training in singing and composition in Italy with Girolamo Crescentini . There he made the acquaintance of "Abbate" Fortunato Santini , who inspired him to study sources in Italian libraries. After his return to Germany, Teschner took singing lessons from Johann Aloys Miksch in Dresden and then settled as a singing teacher in Berlin, where he was appointed Royal Prussian Professor in 1873.

He composed vocal pedagogical works and was the editor of the works of Michael Praetorius , Johannes Eccard and Joachim a Burck as well as Antonio Caldara .

Teschner died unmarried.
