Alfred Graf von Oberndorff (born December 9, 1870 in Edingen , † March 16, 1963 in Heidelberg ) was a German diplomat.

Life

After completing his legal studies and doctorate to become a Dr. iur. Oberndorff joined the foreign service at the University of Heidelberg . From 1900 he was second embassy secretary in Madrid and from 1905 first embassy secretary in Brussels . As counselor he went to Madrid again in 1907 and to Vienna in 1910 . From 1912 to 1916 Oberndorff was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Royal Norwegian Court in Oslo , and from 1916 to 1918 Envoy to Sofia .

Oberndorff was the representative of the Reich government for questions of foreign policy and on November 11, 1918 co-signed the Compiègne armistice . In 1920 and 1921 he was the first German chargé d'affaires in Warsaw . As a founding member of the Franco-German study commission, he campaigned for a rapprochement between Germany and France in the 1920s.

Oberndorff is buried in Neckarhausen .
