Juan Piquer Simón
Juan Piquer Simón (born February 16, 1935 in Valencia ; † January 8, 2011 there ) was a Spanish film director .
Life
Piquer Simón studied at the Instituto de Investigaciones Cinematográficas in Madrid and then got a job as a cameraman at TV Espana . In 1959 he founded the production company Cinedinter , with which he made advertising films. For almost two decades he made documentaries on the side, until he ventured into the field of feature films in 1976 (after minor earlier attempts) with the Jules Verne film Fantastic Journey to the Center of the Earth and continued after the great success. He stayed with his films almost exclusively in science fiction and horror .
With the establishment of the feature film studio Piquer he was able to work independently and with great control over all production steps of his films, which were often ridiculed by the critics. In 1999, at the end of his career, he produced a television series based on his own script.
Piquer Simón often used the pseudonyms JP Simon and Alfredo Casado .
