Algiers is an American rock band from Atlanta , Georgia .

history

Fisher, Mahan and Tesche made music together as children in Atlanta, Georgia. The band was officially founded in 2007 in London . The band name Algiers is to be understood as a metaphor for the anti-colonialist uprising. It symbolizes a place where violence, racism, resistance and religion mix.

The band released their first single Blood in January 2012 on the Atlanta-based label Double Phantom.

The band's self-titled debut album was released on June 2, 2015 on Matador Records . In 2015, shortly before the album was released, the band appeared in support of Interpol on their North American tour. Former bloc party drummer Matt Tong has been on drums for the band since 2015 .

In 2017 the band released the album The Underside Of Power , the sound of which radio station ByteFM describes as "end of time post-punk industrial gospel" like that of its 2020 successor There Is No Year .
