Ali Şimşek (born March 9, 1973 in Sorgun , Turkey ) is a German technical employee and politician ( SPD ). He was from 2011 to 2015 and will again be a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 2020 .

Ali Şimşek is married and has two children.

From 1980 to 1985 he attended elementary school in Sorgun, Turkey, and from 1985 to 1988 the technical high school in Ankara. In 1988 he came to Germany, where he attended the 9th and 10th grades of the Mümmelmannsberg comprehensive school until 1990 and soon took on German citizenship. In 1991 he began training as an industrial mechanic specializing in industrial engineering, which he completed in 1995. He then trained to become a laser technical assistant at the FH am Berliner Tor (LAZ-Nord) until 1997. He also completed a commercial apprenticeship as an evening course. Simsek has been working for Continental AG in Hamburg since 1998.

As chairman and board member of the Turkish association AKD eV from 2007 to 2011, he came into contact with politics and joined the SPD in 2010. For them he sat from April 2010 to March 2011 as an elected citizen in the committee for economy, labor and consumer protection of the Bergedorf district assembly.

In 2011 he was elected to the 20th Hamburg citizenship , ranking 59th on his party's state list. Şimşek's political focus as a member of parliament was integration and sport policy. He also takes care of debt counseling and the fight against jihadist Salafism, including the radicalization of young people associated with it. With Aydan Özoğuz (Minister of State-SPD) Simsek founded the SPD working groups Migration and Diversity in Berlin and Hamburg. Since September 2012 he has been deputy chairman of the Migration and Diversity Working Group of the Hamburg SPD. In the 2015 state elections, Şimşek ran for 29th place on the SPD state list, but just barely (26 votes) failed to secure a seat.

On February 23, 2020, Şimşek succeeded in entering the Hamburg parliament .
