The Aliança das Agências de Informação de Língua Portuguesa ( ALP , German  Association of Portuguese- Language News Agencies ) is an association of the official news agencies of the Portuguese-speaking countries .

The aim of the association is u. a. mutual support in democratic development and the protection of human rights, and the free and as wide as possible dissemination of news. Mutual development cooperation in training and technical equipment is one of the other goals.

history

The alliance was founded at the Communication Forum of the Community of Portuguese- Speaking Countries (CPLP) in Lisbon in July 1996. The founding members were the news agencies of the then seven countries with the state language Portuguese. The first president was Luís Felipe Silva , general director of the Cape Verdean Cabopress.

At the 6th general assembly of the ALP at the end of November 2013 at the headquarters of the Brazilian Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) in Brasília , the member agencies agreed to create a joint website and later a joint news agency. It is intended to help compensate for the uneven development of the various agencies and to further support the sometimes fragile democracies. The financing by the governments and a uniform orthographic regulation for the website now had to be clarified .

After it was founded in 2016, the East Timors agency was incorporated into the ALP.
