Alice Pearce

Alicia "Alice" Pearce (born October 16, 1917 in New York City , † March 3, 1966 in Hollywood , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Alice Pearce spent her childhood in Europe and returned to the United States as an adult. She began working as a comedian in nightclubs and was on the cast list in the musical On The Town on Broadway .

Gene Kelly was impressed by her performance and gave her a role in the film adaptation of the musical Today we go shopping from 1949, in which she sang the song Count On Me alongside Kelly and Frank Sinatra . Critics and audiences were delighted with Pearce's comedic performance and Pearce got her own television show.

From then on, many appearances in films followed and Alice Pearce returned sporadically to Broadway, where she met her future second husband Paul Davis during a production of Bells Are Ringing . One of her best-known roles was that of the hysterical neighbor Gladys Kravitz in the sitcom In Love with a Witch , which she played in a total of 30 episodes between 1964 and 1966. After her death, the part was taken over by Sandra Gould .

Private

Pearce was married twice; In 1948 she married the composer John Rox , with whom she remained married until his death in 1957. In 1964 she married her stage manager Paul Davis.

On March 3, 1966, Pearce died of ovarian cancer at the age of only 48 . Her body was cremated and her ashes were scattered over the sea.
