Alice Pennefather

Alice Edith Wilhelmina Pennefather (born October 16, 1902 , † February 24, 1983 , née Patterson ) was a badminton player from Singapore .

Career

The tall Pennefather, of Eurasian origin, dominated the women's badminton disciplines in the Malaya Federation and Singapore in the 1930s and 1940s . She won six national titles in singles, doubles and mixed in Singapore and was also successful in the states of the federation Malaya Penang , Perak and Selangor .

In 1937 she won the first ever Malaysia Open in both women's singles and doubles with Chiong Hiok Choir . She won the singles final at the Happy World Stadium in Singapore against Lee Chee Neo 6:11, 11: 4 and 11: 8. In 1948 she was successful again at the same event in women's doubles with Helen Heng .

In 1949 she lost the final in women's doubles with Ong Heng Kwee against Helen Heng and Mary Sim at the national championships in Singapore .

Pennefather was also active in tennis, hockey and netball.
