Singaporean badminton championship
At the Singapore Championships in badminton , the country's titleholders in this sport are determined. the first (unofficial) championships started a year earlier. In the first two years only the men's singles were played, in 1930 the men's doubles were added. For the first three decades of the championship, title fights took place under the auspices of the Malayan Badminton Association . The titles were linked to donated trophies: The men's singles were for the Aw Boon Haw Shield , the men's doubles for the UCA Schield , and the mixed for the Clarke Cup . The individual disciplines of a game season were often played on different dates during this time, even individual disciplines were spread over several game weekends. It wasn't until later that all five disciplines were held on one weekend. Players like Wong Peng Soon , Tan Chong Tee , Seah Eng Hee or Alice Pennefather determined the national game in the early years. Wong Peng Soon was particularly successful internationally. In the new millennium, Ronald Susilo made a name for himself. Team championships have been held since 1965 .
