Yao Lei

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yao Lei (born February 24, 1990 in Nantong , Jiangsu ) is a Singaporean badminton player .

Career

Her first international success was the bronze medal with the national team in the team classification of the Junior World Championships 2007 in New Zealand's Waitakere City . Less than a month later, she won her first Grand Prix tournament in the double formation alongside her compatriot Shinta Mulia Sari, who was born in Indonesia . A year later she celebrated her second tournament victory in November 2008 when she won the double title with Fu Mingtian at the Junior World Championships in Pune , India . A few weeks later she was part of the Singaporean team that won the silver medal at the Southeast Asian Games.

At the Badminton World Cup , the duo failed in the third round, but won the silver medal at the Southeast Asian Games that same year . Singapore also secured third place in the team classification. 2010 turned out to be the most successful in Lei's career to date. Together with Sari she won four tournaments - at the Romanian International she was also successful in mixed. In June both of them won the India Open and the Singapore Open within a week . It was their first Grand Prix Gold and BWF Super Series titles. The latter in particular was remarkable in that they were eliminated in the first round last year. Both received frenetic cheers in the city-state as they were the first ever to win Singaporeans in the history of the tournament. The duo was ranked 23rd in March 2010, 19th in June and 10th in the women's doubles world rankings in September. With Chayut Triyachart, Lei was in 16th place in mixed in mid-September.
