Ong Poh Lim

Ong Poh Lim (born November 18, 1921 in Kuching , † April 17, 2003 in Singapore ) was a badminton player from Singapore. Lim was one of the most important badminton players of the 1950s .

Career

Ong Poh Lim won the first edition of the world championship for men's teams , the Thomas Cup , with the Malaysian team in the 1948/49 season .

For the final, he and his seven teammates Chan Kon Leong , Law Teik Hock , Teoh Seng Khoon , Ooi Teik Hock , Yeoh Teck Chye , Lim Kee Fong , Wong Peng Soon and the non-playing captain Lim Chuan Geok took part in a 25- day cruise to the UK, where the Malays were confronted with a European winter for the first time. In the final against Denmark, Ong Poh Lim defeated Poul Holm 17:14 and 15: 8.

In 1952 Ong Poh Lim was again a member of the Malaysian Thomas Cup team and contributed three wins in the final against the USA to successfully defend the title. Three years later he was once more the support of his team in Malaysia's third success in the Thomas Cup in a row, where he again contributed three wins to the overall success.

Ong Poh Lim was also extremely successful as a single player. He won the All England , the Malaysian Open , the Denmark Open , the French Open , the Irish Open and the US Open .
