Yeoh Teck Chye (born December 14, 1923 , † 20th or 21st century ) was a Malaysian badminton player .

Career

Yeoh Teck Chye won the first edition of the world championship for men's teams , the Thomas Cup , with the Malaysian team in the 1948/49 season . In 1948 he was Selangor's national champion in the men's singles, in 1949 runner-up. Last year he won the Malaysian Open with Chan Kon Leong in men's doubles.

In the run-up to the Thomas Cup , there were differences in the Malaysian team over the nomination of Chye, as he had lost significantly to the up-and-coming Ismail bin Marjan in August 1948. Ultimately, however, it was decided that Yeoh Teck Chye would be able to justify this with victories in all four doubles.

For the final, he and his seven teammates Chan Kon Leong , Law Teik Hock , Teoh Seng Khoon , Ooi Teik Hock , Wong Peng Soon , Lim Kee Fong , Ong Poh Lim and the non-playing captain Lim Chuan Geok took part in a 25- day cruise to the UK, where the Malays were confronted with a European winter for the first time. In the semifinals against the USA, Yeoh Teck Chye and his partner Chan Kon Leong won against Clinton Stephens and Bobby Williams as well as against Dave Freeman and Wynn Rogers clearly in straight sets. In the final against Denmark both won again clearly against Poul Holm and Ib Olesen as well as Jørn Skaarup and Preben Dabelsteen and thus laid the foundation for Malaya's victory in this first edition of the Thomas Cup .

In 1952, Yeoh Teck Chye no longer managed to qualify in the national trials for the Malaysian Thomas Cup team, where Ismail bin Marjan was able to prevail this time.

Yeoh Teck Chye later started a political career.
