Law Teik Hock

Law Teik Hock ( July 4, 1922 - July 15, 2010 ) was a Malaysian badminton player . He died on July 15, 2010 at his residence in Taman Nirvana, Jalan Anson, George Town.

Career

Law Teik Hock won with the Malaysian team the first edition of the world championship for men's teams , the Thomas Cup , in the 1948/49 season . For the final, he and his seven teammates Chan Kon Leong , Yeoh Teck Chye , Teoh Seng Khoon , Ooi Teik Hock , Wong Peng Soon , Lim Kee Fong , Ong Poh Lim and the non-playing captain Lim Chuan Geok took part in a 25- day cruise to the UK, where the Malays were confronted with a European winter for the first time. In the final against Denmark, Law Teik Hock replaced Wong Peng Soon, who was injured in the shoulder. Hock won a single against Jørn Skaarup surprisingly clearly with 15: 5 and 15: 0 and lost another against Mogens Felsby just as clearly with 11:15 and 1:15. In the semifinals against the USA Hock was used only once and lost his singles against Carl Loveday with 12:15 and 5:15.

Before that, Law Teik Hock and Choong Ewe Beng had a historic victory at the Penang Open on September 20, 1948. In the final of this tournament they defeated Ooi Teik Hock and Tan Kin Hong with 15: 8 and 15:11, which meant the first defeat for the final opponent in over seven years.

In 1952 Law Teik Hock did not manage to qualify in the national trials for the Malaysian Thomas Cup team, but won the Malaysian Open for the first time .
