Leisenwald , along with Waldensberg and Wittgenborn, is one of the three districts of the town of Wächtersbach , in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district , which lie on the edge of the Spielberger Platte plateau . Then there are the valley communities of Aufenau , Hesseldorf , Neudorf and Weilers .

The village is located on the southern edge of the Vogelsberg and on the northeastern edge of the Büdinger Forest , 11.2 km northwest of the center of Wächtersbach. State road 3194 runs through the village .

history

Among the prehistoric testimonies of the region there is also a stone ax found in Leisenwald .

Place name

The place name is interpreted as the forest of a Lyso or Leiso (first name). Over the centuries it changed from the original Lysenwald in 1529, via Leysenwald (1557), to today's Leisenwald .

Middle Ages and Modern Times

As early as the 14th century there was probably a forestry hatch in Leisenwald .

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1470. From the Middle Ages to modern times it belonged to the Isenburg rulership .

In Leisenwald, the Waldensian refugees found temporary accommodation between 1698 and 1700 until they built their own houses in the newly founded village of Waldensberg. In 1939 the place belonged to the Gelnhausen district and had 410 inhabitants.

On March 1, 1971, Leisenwald was incorporated into the town of Wächtersbach.

For Leisenwald there is a local district according to the Hessian municipal code . The local advisory board consists of five members. The current mayor is Thomas Lindt, his deputy is Timo Reusswig.

Every year at Whitsun in Leisenwald, the two-day “Leisenwald Marriage Market ” takes place from Sunday to Monday. After a file from 1680 was found in the Princely Ysenburg Archives, it was possible to prove that the market had existed for more than 300 years. After the former landlord Sperzel gave up the marriage market, Heinrich (Henry) Traber from Lahntal took over in 2015 and continued the popular tradition.

There was a one-class school in Leisenwald . The establishment of a large school in Schlierbach in 1961 and its expansion into a supra- local , central elementary school in the following years , provided space and a replacement for the one-class schools in the Wächtersbach districts on the Spielberger Platte: Leisenwald and Waldensberg. Wittgenborn was added later. A connection is guaranteed by buses.

The cooperative comprehensive school , the Friedrich August Genth School in the Wächtersbach city center school center, is the secondary school for all parts of the city. Like all other districts, Leisenwald is connected to the school center in the city center by bus.

Kindergarten and day care center

The smallest and oldest kindergarten in the city of Wächtersbach is located in Leisenwald . It is housed in the building of the former village community center. The Daisy Kindergarten was opened in 1954. Since 2015 there also in a nursery primary school students of grades 1-4, cared for up to 25 children aged three to ten years.

Village community center

Volunteer firefighter

The Leisenwald volunteer fire brigade , which was officially founded in 1929, has had its own new fire station in the village since September 18, 2011 . The history of the fire service goes much further, namely back to the 17th century. In 1684 there was a fire disaster in Leisenwald. Then the Counts of Ysenburg Wächtersbach issued fire extinguishing regulations . This “obliged the guilds to provide emergency assistance in the event of a fire” .

In the anniversary year 2019, the Leisenwald volunteer fire brigade has 23 emergency services in its ranks. The average age of the emergency services is currently (2020) 33.3 years. The youth fire brigade currently has 9 members. Joint exercises with the fire brigades Wächtersbach, Aufenau, Wittgenborn and Waldensberg take place several times a year.
