Weilers is the smallest district of the city of Wächtersbach , in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse and, along with Aufenau , Hesseldorf and Neudorf, is one of its valley communities. Three other districts Wittgenborn , Waldensberg and Leisenwald are on the Spielberger Platte .

Geographical location

The village is between Spessart and Vogelsberg am Büdinger Wald , three kilometers northeast of Wächtersbach, on the left side of the Bracht . It is connected to the districts of Hesseldorf in the west and Neudorf in the south via Kreisstraße 886 . In the north, Weilers borders on the neighboring municipality of Schlierbach .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1354 with the place name Wilers . It was founded by Konrad IV von Trimberg . A chapel is mentioned in Weilers in the same year. There was already a mill here in 1365 . From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the place had wood and hatching or masting rights in the Büdinger Forest , it was equal to the so-called forested villages (such as Breitenborn ).

In 1832 Count Adolf II von Ysenburg-Wächtersbach in Weilers, together with other partners, founded Waechtersbacher Keramik . On October 1st, 1832, production began in Weilers, in a rented farm yard , until it was relocated to Schlierbach after only 2 years (1834).

From 1821 to 1866, the village belonged to the Hessian , 1866-1945 for Prussian and 1945-1970 for Hessian Kreis Gelnhausen . In 1939 the place had 211 inhabitants.

Until 1967 the Vogelsberger Südbahn connected the town of Wächtersbach with the Kinzigtalbahn and led via Birstein to the Vogelsbergbahn with the terminus Hartmannshain station . Weilers had a stop on this train. Today the Südbahnradweg runs along the former railway line . It is a comfortable cycle path to the north, which is a connection to the volcano cycle path .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , on December 31, 1970, Weilers was incorporated into the city of Wächtersbach on a voluntary basis together with Hesseldorf , Neudorf and Wittgenborn .

The Kinderbrücke primary school and a cooperative comprehensive school , the Friedrich August Genth School , are located in the city center of Wächtersbach . All districts are connected to the school center of the core city by bus lines.

Village community center

Weilers has a village community center . In addition to communal use, the facilities can also be booked for private events of all kinds, family celebrations, presentations, seminars and the like.

Volunteer firefighter

The Weilers volunteer fire brigade has its own base in the village. Founded in 1883, it is one of the district's older fire departments. In the statutes of 1892 she describes herself as “... an association of capable, self-sacrificing men ... who are ready at any time to willingly put themselves in the service of public order. It exists to honor God, to defend one's neighbor ” . At that time it already consisted of 23 men. The members and their families had a formative influence on the social life of the place from the start.

Personalities and families associated with Weilers

  • Dietrich Faulhaber (around 1325 – before 1380), (son of Berthold Faulhaber and Gele Schultheiß), and his wife Luckard acquired the village of Weilers from Konrad von Trimberg on June 2, 1365 . The place remained for about 250 years until it was on March 26, 1603, as a fief of the Faulhaber family.
