Faulhaber (family)

The von Faulhaber family belonged to the Franconian lower nobility . It was widely ramified and mainly based in the area between Franconia and the Wetterau . The name has many variants, such as Faulhaber, Fulhaber and Fulhabir, is repeatedly provided with the addition of " Wächtersbach and Orb ". This additional designation also alternates between Wechtersbach and Wächtersbach, or Orb, Urb, Urba and Orba.

history

Since the 13th century, members of the von Faulhaber family have acted as servants of the church and the nobility . In the 16th century the family was incorporated into the imperial free knighthood of the canton of Odenwald . For the period from the 14th to the 16th century, there is a wealth of documents that document various legal transactions by members of the family in the area between Schlüchtern and Mainz , with a clear focus on Wächtersbach and Orb. Descendants of this family are still mentioned in the 20th century.

Faulhaber's coat of arms is emblazoned as follows : "In silver a red bar from which five red tips grow upwards and five red linden leaves downwards" . Elsewhere it is added “The helmet covers are silver on the inside, turning red on the outside; Horned helmet , from which two ox horns grow, which are adorned with four red clover leaves on the sides. In between an armless woman with a red skirt, silver belt and crown on her head ” .

  • In 1250 and 1261 a Dietrich Faulhaber appeared with a son of the same name. It is said about him: He is "the ordinary lord of all the following men and women of this ... sex". Dieter Faulhaber is mentioned in connection with a property dispute with the Neustadt am Main monastery .
  • Another Dietrich Faulhaber (around 1325 - before 1380, son of Berthold Faulhaber and Gele Schultheiß) and his wife Luckard acquired the village of Weilers from Konrad von Trimberg on June 2, 1365 . The Faulhaber family retains about 250 years until 26 March 1603 to feud .
  • Another Dietrich von Faulhaber was 1398–1436 abbot of the Schlüchtern monastery .
  • Bechtold Faulhaber (approx. 1377–1437) in Wächtersbach, (son of Conrad Faulhaber (* around 1350; † after 1390) and NN von Karlsbach and grandson of Dietrich Faulhaber (* around 1325; † before 1380) and his wife Luckard), was enfeoffed in 1428 and 1437 with extensive goods in Orb. In 1425 he was granted tax exemption for all of his property, the Freihof in Orb
  • Henne von Marborn, called Fulhabir, appears in a document from 1413… “The Faulhaber originally come from Marborn and are identical to the noble lords of Marborn. From the identity of the coats of arms it can also be seen that it is the same as that of Faulhaber ” .
  • Ewald Faulhaber († 1486) Canon in Mainz , with the position of cathedral cantor , is possibly the founder of the famous panel painting by the master of the Darmstadt Passion in the Bad Orber Martinskirche. A picture of the founder appears on one of the panels.
  • The Faulhaberin is a member of the von Faulhaber family, but her first name and family connection are unknown. She is charged with witchcraft in 1564. After a long, severe torture caused by Count Georg von Isenburg-Büdingen , with lasting health consequences, she was pardoned for lack of a confession.
  • Johann Adam Faulhaber († 1609), was a son of Johann Ludwig Faulhaber "zu Urb and Wechtersbach" and Catharina von Erthal and Hetzels, who came from the von Thüngen family on his mother's side . He died in childhood from dog or wolf bites.
  • Johann Engelbert Faulhaber, is the last male heir to a branch of the Faulhaber family. He died in 1624.
