The Spielberger Platte is a historic region in the Main-Kinzig district in southern Hesse .

The Spielberger Platte is a mountain plateau on the southern Vogelsberg , on the eastern edge of the Rhine-Main area . Close to the Bracht breakthrough, between Helfersdorf and Neuenschmidten , the slab , as it is popularly called, rises steeply out of the Brachttal. It is between 340 and 390 m above sea level. NHN . The landscape is open and only on the south-eastern slopes, towards the Brachttal, is bordered by forests.

The climatic conditions on the Spielberger Platte are noticeably rougher than in the Kinzigtal and Brachttal (at around 140 m above sea level). Because of its altitude, this landscape offers a special view in all seasons.

A “cycle path connection between Wittgenborn - Spielberg - Streitberg - Leisenwald and Waldensberg” and a connection to the Hessian long-distance cycle path R3 are planned on the Spielberger Platte . The realization is planned for 2020/2021.

history

The area of ​​the Spielberger Platte with its four villages belonged to the rulership of the Counts of Isenburg since the Middle Ages . Therefore, the links between the villages are traditionally political, but also very close due to their geographic location. In the early modern period (1699) a fifth place was added with the founding of the village Waldensberg by the Waldensians who were expelled from Piedmont.
