Along with Schlierbach , Udenhain , Hellstein , Spielberg and Streiberg, Neuenschmidten is one of the six districts of the municipality of Brachttal in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse and is located south of the Vogelsberg . Neuenschmidten also includes the small hamlet of Schächtelburg to the northwest.
It borders the municipality of Kefenrod to the north, the Schlierbach district to the south , and Spielberg and Hellstein to the west and east .
The federal road 276 and the state road 3443 , which connect to the districts of Hellstein and Udenhain, run through the village .
history
Middle Ages and Modern Times
As early as 1390 there was a forest smithy on site , which was owned by Mr. von Lissberg. The ore processed there came from the "Schächtelburg" prospect . The Schächtelburg mill was located at a ditch branching off from the Bracht. This grain and oil mill was shut down in 1963.
From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the place had forest rights ( wood and hat rights ) in the Büdinger Forest . It belonged to the domain of the Counts of Isenburg . North of the village, a hammer company was founded in 1707–1714 , of which Eisenhammer Castle still bears witness today . This was initially called Neue Schmiede , hence the place name Neuenschmidten. Today there is a small hydroelectric power station there .
Territorial reform
On July 1, 1970, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , through the voluntary amalgamation of the independent communities of Schlierbach, Hellstein and Neuenschmidten, the new community of Brachttal was created. Spielberg and Streitberg were added later on February 1, 1971. On July 1, 1974, Udenhain was incorporated into the Brachttal municipality by virtue of state law.
Public facilities
schools
At the end of the 1950s, the then still independent communities of Neuenschmidten agreed with the neighboring communities of Hellstein and Schlierbach to build a larger "central school". The "one-class schools" in the towns were in a bad state . The new school was located exactly on the border between Neuenschmidten and Schlierbach and was inaugurated on January 12, 1961. The first expansion took place soon (1966) because of the rapid growth in the number of students; others followed in 1990 and 2003.
The school in Schlierbach gradually developed from a school with primary and secondary levels to a pure elementary school . The secondary school for Neuenschmidten, as for the other Brachttaler districts, is the cooperative comprehensive school , the Friedrich-August-Genth-Schule, located in the city center of Wächtersbach . They are connected to this school center by bus lines.
Multipurpose hall and more
Neuenschmidten has a number of communal facilities. These include a multi-purpose hall , the common rooms of the volunteer fire brigades, the “old school”, the “back house”, “old post office” Neuenschmidten and “old consumer” Neuenschmidten. There is also a restaurant in the multi-purpose hall.
In addition to communal use, the facilities can also be booked for private events of all kinds, family celebrations, presentations, seminars and the like.
Volunteer firefighter
The Neuenschmidten volunteer fire brigade has its own base in the village . It was founded in 1883, and in 2007 a youth fire brigade and a bambini group were added. The operations department currently (2020) consists of 23 active comrades, the youth fire brigade has 13 people, the children's group consists of 5 children.
