Aline Sax

Aline Sax (born March 20, 1984 in Antwerp ) is a Flemish writer and historian. She writes historical literature for children and young people.

Life

Aline Sax grew up in Wilrijk , a district of Antwerp. At the age of 15, she published her first book, Mist over het strand , which is about two German child soldiers during the Second World War . Her interest in historical topics was evident both in her literary work and in her professional career. From 2002 she studied history at the University of Antwerp . After graduating, she did her doctorate with a thesis on Flemish collaborators during World War II. She works in historical research for Geheugen Collectief and at Ghent University .

Aline Sax achieved international fame in 2007 with her youth book Eine Welt inbetween , which tells the love story of two young men in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. It was published in German, Danish and English and won several youth awards and nominations. The following year was published under the title In a life like this . In 2016 the German edition of Sax's youth novel Das Mädchen und der Soldat was published . The book is about the friendship between a little blind girl and a black soldier during the First World War in Belgium.
