Tesker (also: Tasker ) is a rural community and the capital of the Tesker department of the same name in Niger .

The sparsely populated Tesker extends over a wide area and is part of two large landscapes: the Sahel zone in the south and the Sahara desert in the north. In the northeast of the municipality, the up to rises 710  m high Termit Massif . The neighboring communities of Teskers are Fachi and Tabelot in the north, N'Gourti in the east, Alakoss , Kellé and N'Guelbély in the south and Tenhya in the west.

The municipality is divided into 36 administrative villages, a traditional village, three hamlets, 29 camps and 144 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Tesker (also: Tasker), which is around 200 kilometers from the nearest main road.

history

An administrative post ( poste administratif ) was set up in Tesker in 1978 , a lower administrative unit headed by a chef de poste administratif . The rural community of Tesker was established as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform in a previously community-free area. The administrative post was removed from the Gouré department in 2011 and elevated to the Tesker department.

population

At the 2001 census, Tesker had 24,703 residents. For the year 2010 33,544 inhabitants were calculated. Tubu live in Tesker , who practice agropastoralism in the south of the rural community and remote grazing in the center and north . The Arabs who live in the north of the rural community, as well as members of the Tuareg subgroup Kanimatane and the Fulbe subgroups Bororo'en, Dabanko'en, Oudah'en, Tountoumankej and Wodaabe also specialize in remote grazing .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the main town of Tesker there is a military post and an important cattle market.
