Alison Klayman (* 1984 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American documentary filmmaker and journalist .

Life

Alison Klayman grew up in Philadelphia and studied at Brown University history . In 2006 she completed her studies with a Bachelor of Arts . After completing her studies, she went on longer working holidays in the People's Republic of China , where she visited Beijing , Tibet and the Republic of China (Taiwan) , during which she learned Mandarin and took on various temporary jobs in journalism and film. Since 2008 she has been working as a journalist in China. She has made a number of features for the PBS newscast Frontline , National Public Radio and wrote for the New York Times . Meanwhile, she was working on a documentary about the life of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei . The film, entitled Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry , premiered at the Sundance Film Festival , where it was awarded the special jury prize. In Germany the film was shown at the Berlinale 2012 .
