All Songs Considered is a weekly US radio broadcast and podcast that has been in production by NPR since January 2000. The show, moderatedby music journalist Bob Boilen , first ran on All Things Considered as a separator between other segments. After an unsuccessful attempt to establish All Songs Considered on the radio, Boilen and NPR decided to stream music on the Internet. The radio show has been available as a free podcast since August 2005. In the same year, webcasts and podcasts of live concertswere alsoposted on the website. Artists included Bright Eyes (first band), Animal Collective , The Decemberists , Neko Case , Wilco, and Tom Waits .

According to Boilen, the main reason for the show's existence is his need to introduce listeners to new, unfamiliar music.

“I'm passionate about this, […] Each one of these songs is a piece of art. But the way radio is today, this music will never get heard. It's just out there in the wind. I just want to give people a chance to taste it. "

“That touches me passionately, [...] Each and every one of these songs is a work of art. but the way radio is today, they will go unheard. It's just the wind. I just want to give people a chance to taste it. "

- Bob Boilen : The New York Times

Presenter Bob Boilen and co-presenter and producer Robin Hilton run a blog on npr.org where they regularly introduce new bands and artists. The online music channel "All Songs 24/7" also plays songs from the program archive around the clock.

In November 2007, All Songs Considered became the cornerstone of NPR Music , National Public Radio's music discovery site. In May 2010 the website had 1.7 million visitors per month. Another side project is the series Tiny Desk Concerts , in which the artists give acoustic concerts in the office of the radio station .

The target group of NPR in particular is a great incentive for artists and bands to be represented in All Songs Considered and NPR Music , as these listeners are interested in artistically demanding content and in buying music.

In the “Music” category, the show is regularly number 1 in the iTunes podcast charts. All Songs Considered is downloaded approximately 2.3 million times a month .

Boilen made a guest appearance on The Simpsons and was named by the New York Times as the "primary style figure" in American music. In April 2016 he published his first book, Your Song Changed My Life , with HarperCollins . Musically he is closest to indie rock , which is why he regularly invites guest moderators for other genres, such as hip-hop .
