Allan Meltzer
Allan Harold Meltzer (* 6. February 1928 in Boston , Massachusetts , † 8. May 2017 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was an American economist and Professor of Political Economy at the Carnegie Mellon University belonging Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh.
Meltzer served as President of the Mont Pelerin Society for the period from 2012 to 2014 .
He was the author of dozens of academic papers and books on monetary policy and the Federal Reserve Bank ("Fed") and was considered one of the world's foremost experts on how to develop and apply monetary policy.
Meltzer's study A History of the Federal Reserve is considered to be the most extensive history of this central bank-like institution. Volume II, covering the years 1951 (Federal Reserve Accord) to 1969, was published in February 2010.
